Scientists have seen orcas hit heavy sunfish on two separate occasions. The orcas hit the fish with great force. The fish burst apart. Scientists do not yet know why the orcas do this.
The orcas may want to break the fish into smaller pieces. These pieces could feed other orcas in their group. Or the orcas may simply feel bored. Scientists do not know which idea is right. They plan to watch more events like these. They want to understand this action better.
