UNICEF chief Catherine Russell visited Bangladesh for three days. UNICEF is the UN group that helps children. She called for an end to child marriage. A 2025 study found that 47.2 per cent of women aged 20 to 24 married before 18. Early marriage makes girls leave school and limits their future choices.
Russell asked the government to keep its promise on spending. This means spending five per cent of the money the country produces on education and health.
She also met Rohingya refugee families in Cox’s Bazar. She asked other countries to support schools and important services for these families and local people. Money for this help is falling. School can help protect children from people who want to hurt or use them.
