The EU has agreed to start two more groups of talks with Ukraine about joining. Four of the six groups are now open. Hungary stopped blocking the talks after an agreement on rights for people from the Hungarian community in Ukraine.
New rules give more protection to teaching in some community languages. Ukrainian is still the language of state education. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungary’s Prime Minister Péter Magyar may meet in Brussels this week. Their teams are planning a meeting, but there is no date. The meeting is not yet certain.
These talks do not mean Ukraine will join the EU. Ukraine must still make many changes. Every EU country must agree before each group of talks can end.
