Texas drone event breaks records with a giant dragon

A week of drone shows in Texas used 71,207 drones in total. The event also featured a record-breaking blue dragon formed by 10,183 drones.

Sky Elements and Damoda set a world record during a week of drone shows in Texas, using 71,207 drones in total. This exceeded the previous record of 55,939 flights. All the shows were controlled from a single centre in a rural area.

On 28 September 2026, the team created a giant blue dragon with 10,183 drones. It broke the record for the largest image of a mythical creature, meaning an animal from traditional stories. The previous record had used 2,247 drones in the United Arab Emirates in late 2025. Each Texas performance involved around 10,200 drones, with several flights taking place each day.

To help manage so many machines, Damoda supplied special trays that stored the drones and charged their batteries. Each drone automatically returned to its own tray after flying. This system made storage and handling much simpler for the teams.

A storm on 27 September created a serious challenge, but the programme continued as planned until the closing night on 30 September. The team completed five successful shows. Guinness World Records judge Michael Empric described the weather and the repeated daily flights as particularly demanding. He praised the achievement after the teams worked through long nights.
