Tesla and SpaceX are talking about becoming one company. Elon Musk announced this on 20 October. He leads both businesses and supports the idea. People who own shares, or small parts of the companies, asked them to look at it. Each company now has a special group to discuss the plan. Musk cannot join these talks. He has interests in both businesses, so he cannot act for just one side.
The groups have not agreed on a plan. The companies may not join together. At Tesla, the plan needs support from the owners of more than half of all shares. This includes shares held by people who do not vote. Together, the businesses would be worth about $3.5 trillion, based on their share prices on 20 October.
Musk thinks the companies could work together on computer programs, computer parts and robots. SpaceX also announced a profit of $4.4 billion for July to September. Its AI business helped it return to profit. This business rents out computers for other companies to use.
