Hildasay, a remote Scottish island off the west coast of Shetland, is for sale for £350,000 (€414,000). Covering around 110 hectares, it can only be reached by boat. The island has a traditional stone cottage and a small pier where boats can stop.
The cottage offers a living area with a stove that burns solid fuel, a raised sleeping area within an open space, and a separate bathroom. This includes a shower, wash basin and toilets. However, the building is not connected to the main electricity network. Previous owners used a small wind turbine and a diesel generator to produce power. The buyer will need to arrange an electricity supply independently. Anyone who wants to improve the accommodation must also obtain planning permission and other legally required approvals.
The island offers a rugged coastline, two freshwater lakes and plenty of birds, with different birdlife appearing through the seasons. Its natural surroundings and simple accommodation make it best suited to someone who enjoys a basic way of life.
