Porto in Portugal came first on a list of Europe’s friendliest cities. Readers of the travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller chose the cities for its 2026 awards. Lisbon, also in Portugal, came second. The readers looked for places with a warm welcome. Local people help visitors with things like food menus and finding their way on the metro.
Porto is popular for short holidays, good food and culture. The magazine also describes its relaxed feel. Lisbon stands on seven hills beside the River Tagus. Visitors can enjoy its cafés.
Amsterdam came third, Stockholm fourth and Valletta fifth.
