Netflix is developing a live-action series based on PUBG, the popular survival game. Unlike an animated series, it will feature real actors. Donald Glover will take the lead role, write the scripts and direct the series. He will also be an executive producer, helping to oversee the project.
His brother and regular creative partner, Stephen Glover, will join him as a writer and executive producer. Donald Glover is known for Atlanta, which won seven Emmy awards and received 26 nominations. The new project brings him from that successful television series to a game with millions of players worldwide.
In PUBG, 100 players fight to survive on an island, with one person or team winning at the end. The game has a limited storyline, giving Glover room to develop a story for television. Its developer, KRAFTON, wants to expand the game brand into films and television through its entertainment division, LV3H.
In a separate project, Netflix is developing a live-action series based on Assassin's Creed. It is also working on a feature film based on Gears of War. These are further examples of the company's work turning video games into screen entertainment.
