Meta and the Chinese robot company Fourier have built a test robot with a human shape. The Information reported that they made it in about three months. Meta calls the robot Max. The companies are already working on a second version.
Max is about 1.5 metres tall and weighs about 48 kilograms. It uses a small computer part called Nvidia Jetson Thor. Its screen shows faces with different feelings, and it has speakers for sound. Its hands have five fingers and can pick up small things.
Meta showed Max to some workers at a company event in late August. Work on Max 2 started in September. Plans include a new middle part for its body, better hands and a device that shows pictures with light. It will also get more tools to notice things around it and help it use stairs.
Meta wants robots like Max to give its AI helper, Muse, a body. It hopes they can do jobs around the home. Meta says it uses the robots for research and tests, and it does not plan to sell them. The company has not set a date to offer a robot product.
