Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the election on 25 October 2026. He received 51.8% of the votes, and Flávio Bolsonaro received 48.2%. Lula won by about 4.4 million votes. He will lead the country for a fourth time.
Thousands of people celebrated in São Paulo. They waved flags, danced and sang in the streets. People in other Brazilian cities celebrated too. But Bolsonaro did not accept the result and said he would ask a court to cancel it. He pointed to a court decision to give people two extra hours to vote.
Groups that work to protect nature welcomed Lula’s win. Under his government, people cut down less of Brazil’s Amazon forest. Forest loss is now at its lowest level since records began in 1988. However, the forest is still getting smaller.
Lula also faces problems in Congress, where politicians make laws. Bolsonaro’s party won the most seats in both parts of Congress. This could make it harder for Lula to pass new laws. Fires and dry weather also remain dangers to the forest.
