Medieval jousting received an unconventional revival at London Fields on Saturday, when participants replaced horses with electric bikes. Staged ahead of Halloween, the event attracted hundreds of spectators to watch riders dressed as knights compete.
Wearing armour and elaborate costumes, the contestants mounted battery-powered Lime bikes and charged towards one another. They wielded lances, attempting to unseat their opponents in a modern adaptation of the centuries-old sport.
The riders made their entrances to rock music before confronting one another, while spectators cheered and celebrated the winners. The combination of medieval dress and electric transport gave the contests their distinctive character.
Beyond the jousting, the gathering featured dancing and medieval-themed costumes. The crowd also saluted Tommy Moore, the event’s self-proclaimed king.
