A flute crafted from bone has been unearthed among the ruins of Troy. Approximately 2,800 years old, the instrument was discovered at the ancient city’s site in modern-day Turkey.
Excavations at Troy have spanned more than 150 years. Yet the bone flute represents the first discovery of a musical instrument in the city’s ruins.
The instrument may have been played around the period when Homer composed the Iliad and the Odyssey. This possible overlap places its use in the era associated with the creation of the two epic poems.
