Ancient bone flute is Troy’s first musical instrument discovery

A 2,800-year-old bone flute has been found in Troy. It may have been played around the time Homer created the Iliad and the Odyssey.

A flute made from bone has been discovered in the ruins of Troy, an ancient city in modern-day Turkey. The instrument is about 2,800 years old.

Excavations, which involve digging to uncover remains from the past, have taken place at Troy for more than 150 years. Despite this long history of exploration, the flute is the first musical instrument found there.

The flute may have been played around the time Homer composed his long poems. These works are the Iliad and the Odyssey.
