Hyatt's new Times Square hotel will include a free-fall ride

The StandardX Times Square is due to open in late 2028 with 1,800 rooms. Planned attractions include a rooftop pool, a high viewing deck and an enclosed free-fall ride.

Hyatt has announced plans for The StandardX Times Square, a new hotel near Times Square in New York City. With 1,800 rooms, it will be Hyatt's largest hotel in the city and one of the largest hotels in New York. It is scheduled to open in the second half of 2028.

The hotel will occupy a very tall building called The Torch, which is under construction in Midtown Manhattan. Its attractions will include a rooftop swimming pool and a viewing deck more than 1,000 feet above the ground. It will also have an enclosed free-fall ride, an attraction with a sudden drop inside a closed space.

Located in the city's theatre district, the hotel will take inspiration from New York's theatre culture. Its rooms and shared spaces will combine design, music and social activity. There are also plans for a range of restaurants, bars and nightlife venues within the building.

Hyatt says this will be a special leading hotel for the StandardX brand, rather than a model for its other properties. The company intends the Times Square location to offer an experience specific to New York.
