Alaska Airlines adds Anchorage–Tokyo route to expansion plans

A new service to Tokyo Narita is among four routes planned from Anchorage. All four will use single-aisle Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Alaska Airlines plans to launch a nonstop service between Anchorage and Tokyo's Narita Airport in May 2027. It will be the airline's first route linking its home state directly with Japan. The 3,433-mile journey is expected to take about eight hours.

Flights are scheduled to operate daily from 13 May to 7 September 2027. The service will then resume in January 2028, with three flights each week. It is part of a four-route expansion from Anchorage.

The other three routes will connect Anchorage with Austin, Dallas Fort Worth and Nashville. All three US services are scheduled for Saturdays between 12 June and 7 August 2027. American Airlines already flies between Anchorage and Dallas Fort Worth, while the other two domestic routes currently have no service.

Alaska will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on all four routes, including the flight to Tokyo. These planes have a single aisle, unlike the airline's larger twin-aisle aircraft used on other routes across the Pacific. Passengers at the front will have reclining seats of the type used in domestic first class, rather than the business-class seating offered on Alaska's larger long-distance aircraft.
