Citroën unveiled an electric concept inspired by its classic 2CV at the Paris Motor Show on 12 October 2026, seeking to translate the original model's simplicity and affordability into a contemporary vehicle. Measuring 3.76 metres in length, the concept combines minimalist styling, a spacious interior and modern electric technology. Although it remains a concept rather than a production model, the French manufacturer intends to begin manufacturing it within two years, by 2028.
The project draws on the heritage of a car that has been a symbol of the brand since 1948. Chief executive Xavier Chardon has emphasised that preserving the spirit of the 2CV means adapting its underlying values, rather than merely copying an earlier design. The concept retains visual connections with its predecessor while incorporating aerodynamic improvements. Engineering work is focused on balancing low weight with durability, with a target weight of approximately one tonne. Its compact dimensions are also intended to support manoeuvrability in urban use and energy efficiency.
Production is expected to take place in Europe, with Citroën targeting a starting price of around €15,000. Achieving that price will depend on controlling costs as the project moves towards manufacturing; it is not yet a final retail price. The company sees affordability as a way to widen access to electric vehicles and improve its competitive position in Europe. The programme also fits its ambition to reduce its carbon footprint, while offering a practical response to everyday transport needs.
