Thai authorities say a fire at a bar in Bangkok killed at least 27 people. The venue, known locally as Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, is in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district and was described as a popular restaurant and entertainment place.
The prime minister said he spoke to a musician who was performing when the fire began. The musician said there was a fire at a switch, then explosions followed and people ran for safety.
Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt said flammable decorations inside the venue may have helped the fire spread quickly. He also said there were early reports that tables with sweets and other goods may have blocked fire exits, but he said this needs an official investigation.
