Sigulda is a town in Latvia. People call it the country’s autumn capital. Its trees turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. The train from Riga takes about an hour and ten minutes.
A cable car carries visitors over the Gauja River. The ride takes seven minutes. You can see castles along the way. Across the river, a short walk through the woods takes you to Gutman’s Cave. It is the largest cave in the Baltic countries. Visitors cut marks into its walls over hundreds of years.
Nearby, Turaida Castle dates from 1214. Its main tower offers views of the area. Sigulda is also a starting point for walks in Gauja National Park. Buses to Turaida Castle leave once an hour.
