Researchers from the University of Kansas studied an old camp above Alaska’s Tanana River. People lived there 13,800 years ago. The finds suggest they did more than stop for a short visit.
The people hunted large animals. They used stones to break animal bones and get food from inside them. Researchers found a large cooking place nearby. People also made needles from bird bones.
The team found stone points with a diamond shape. These were possibly sharp ends for hunting weapons. Similar points from that time come from the Russian side of an old land bridge. This suggests people travelled across the land between Russia and Alaska.
