British jewellery expert Jayne Bond found a £3.39 ring on Amazon from a different seller. It had the same design as an earlier unsafe ring. The seller said it contained 92.5% silver. Bond said her first tests found cadmium, a metal that can cause cancer.
The earlier ring contained about 92.3% cadmium. The UK allows only 0.01% in jewellery. Amazon says it has now removed the new ring. Bond also said its low price was a warning sign.
Cadmium can harm the body over time. Very little enters through the skin. Eating it or breathing it in is more dangerous. Amazon says sellers must follow safety rules and must not make false claims about their products.
