Webb Telescope Finds Light from an Ancient Star Explosion

Scientists found a very old star explosion. They think they see it just days after it began.

Scientists used the James Webb Space Telescope to find an exploding star. They call it AT 2026abck. Its light left more than 12.5 billion years ago. The universe was about 1.15 billion years old then.

The team thinks the pictures show the explosion just four to 10 days after it began. At its brightest, it gives off about 8 billion times as much light as the sun.

The universe keeps growing. This makes the explosion look about six times slower to us. The explosion may also be much stronger than most star explosions. Scientists are not sure yet. They plan to watch it again to learn more about what kind of explosion it was.
