UNICEF Calls for More Support for Children in Bangladesh

Catherine Russell wants Bangladesh to end child marriage, spend more on children, and protect learning for refugee children and local children.

UNICEF helps children around the world. Its leader, Catherine Russell, visited Bangladesh for three days. She called for an end to child marriage. A 2025 study found that 47.2% of women aged 20 to 24 married before 18. Early marriage makes girls leave school and have children early.

Russell wants girls to finish school. She also wants the government to keep its spending promise. Its goal for education and health is 5% of the value of everything the country produces.

She met Rohingya refugee families in Cox's Bazar. She called for continued help from other countries for refugees and local people. Money for this help is falling. She said children need to keep learning, and families need basic services.
