Swedish broadcaster TV4 has delayed its version of The Challenge after the entire edited season was lost. The loss happened about five weeks before the planned November 22 premiere, and the show will now air in 2027. Based on the American program, the competition combines physical tasks, mental endurance and alliances between players.
The newspaper Aftonbladet, quoting unnamed people, reported that an AI agent had deleted the completed season after receiving access to the production company's server. An AI agent is software that can carry out tasks and, with permission, change files or computer systems. TV4's news division initially repeated the newspaper's account. However, the broadcaster's head of programs, Mia Lindqvist, later denied that an AI agent was responsible. TV4 described the cause as a technical failure.
The completed season could not be recovered. According to the newspaper's report, the loss erased hundreds of days of work. TV4 said all the original footage remains available, but the production team will have to edit the whole season again from the beginning.
