Hundreds of students in New Jersey collected food to help families. They brought in more than 250,000 pounds during the second 100-Yard Food Drive Challenge. Thousands of bright yellow bags covered the football field at Howell High School.
Students started by asking people in their neighborhoods for food. Schools, businesses, families, and volunteers joined the effort. Dermer Dreams, a group that helps people, had never collected so much food at one event.
The school’s football team helped volunteers carry the bags to rented trucks. The food then went to 30 food banks across New Jersey. These places give food to people who do not have enough to eat.
Dan Dermer started Dermer Dreams in 2019. His wife, Alyse, also works with the group. They also started a program for students who needed to spend time helping their communities. The first food challenge took place in 2025 at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. Students there planned the event and found volunteers.
