SpaceX Debuts at $2.1 Trillion Valuation

On its first day on Nasdaq, SpaceX shares gained 19%, lifting the company to a $2.1 trillion market value. Heavy trading, strong demand, and debate among analysts quickly turned the debut into a major Wall Street event.

SpaceX made a dramatic entrance on Nasdaq, rising 19% on its first trading day and closing at $160.95 after an opening price of $150. That move gave the company a market value of $2.1 trillion, placing it sixth among the most valuable U.S. companies and unsettling the balance among Wall Street technology stocks. Trading was intense: more than 510 million shares changed hands, and total volume reached $84 billion. Roughly 4,000 current and former employees became millionaires through their holdings. The company continues to draw investor attention because of its work in space transport and satellite internet, even though it is not yet profitable. It reported annual revenue of $18.7 billion and a price-to-sales ratio of 112. Analysts remain divided. Morningstar said a value of $780 billion looked more reasonable, while CFRA began coverage with a sell recommendation. SpaceX has also said that the total size of its business areas is $28.5 trillion, which it describes as the largest market opportunity in human history.
