The chief executive of SK Hynix has warned that the memory industry could face its most serious supply shortage in 2027. He said the pressure comes from demand linked to artificial intelligence, which has been driving the market.
The warning matters because memory is a key part of the chip sector, and shortages can ripple through many digital products. In his view, the problem would not pass quickly: the crisis, he said, may last for a long time.
Taken together, the comments point to a market under strain as AI demand continues to rise. For the chip industry, 2027 could become a difficult year if supply does not keep up.
