Disney brought out a live-action version of Moana this week, after the two animated films were very successful. Because of that, expectations were high for the new film.
Disney spent 250 million dollars on production and 145 million dollars on promotion. But the film took in only 43 million dollars in the United States during its first weekend, and 95 million dollars worldwide. Early estimates say Disney could lose 125 million dollars.
The film is set in ancient Polynesia and follows a young hero who sets out on a bold journey. Catherine Laga'aia plays Moana, and Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui. The movie also uses songs, like the animated version.
