Karl Bushby arrived at his mother’s home in Hull, England, on November 2, 2026. The British traveler is 57 years old. His journey covered 50,000 kilometers across four continents and took 28 years.
Bushby started in Punta Arenas, Chile, in November 1998. He planned to finish in 12 years. He made two rules: he could not use transport to move forward, and he had to walk home.
Bad weather and problems with travel papers made the trip much longer. The pandemic also stopped him for a long time. He spent 31 days swimming across the Caspian Sea, using special clothes and a vest to help him float. In early October, he swam across the English Channel to reach Britain.
Up to 1,000 people welcomed him in the center of Hull before he reached his mother Angela’s home. He thanked the many people who helped him during the journey. Strangers gave him food, places to stay, and care when he was sick. He also returned to his family, including a 12-year-old granddaughter he had never met.
