James Webb survey reveals the universe’s cosmic web

Astronomers have reconstructed the universe’s large-scale structure in unprecedented detail through the largest survey ever carried out with the James Webb Space Telescope. The resulting map traces the development of galaxies since the universe’s infancy, roughly 13 billion years ago, and shows how they are arranged within the cosmic web. That web is the largest known structure in existence and serves as the framework of the cosmos. It contains galaxy clusters and clusters of clusters, along with gas filaments, stars, voids, and sheets of dark matter. Together, these features form the scaffolding that shapes the universe on its largest scales.
