The European Parliament has approved new rules for travel problems. The vote had 652 members in support and two against. Eight members chose neither side. Travelers across the European Union will have one form to ask for their money back. The European Commission will put it on its website in every EU language. It will cover all types of transport.
Passengers have the right to get all their money back within 14 days. This also applies to trips bought through travel agents or booking websites. The old rules were not clear about these businesses. If a booking business does not pay on time, the airline must pay the passenger.
The rules also help people with disabilities. When they need someone to travel with them, that person can fly for free. This is already possible on buses, trains, and ships. The new rules build on changes to air travel rights approved in July. Those changes made it easier to get money back. They also require airlines to include one free carry-on item in prices shown online.
