Hundreds of spectators gathered at London Fields on Saturday before Halloween to watch an unusual version of a medieval sport. Participants dressed as knights raced toward each other on electric bikes rather than horses.
The event brought back jousting, a contest in which armored riders use long poles called lances to try to knock their opponents off their mounts. For this version, the participants rode battery-powered Lime bikes. They wore elaborate costumes and carried lances as they attempted to knock each other off their bikes.
Riders made their entrances to rock music before facing their opponents, while spectators cheered and celebrated the winners. The gathering also included dancing and medieval-themed costumes. The crowd saluted Tommy Moore, who had declared himself king.
