Bulldog Loses About 20 Pounds and Joins a New Family

After arriving at an animal shelter with serious movement problems, Peggy Sue gradually lost weight. Her new owners have continued her care.

Peggy Sue, a bulldog in England, weighed about 70 pounds when she arrived at the RSPCA’s West Hatch Animal Centre in July. The shelter in Somerset had to carry her from a van to her living area in a crate. She struggled with infections and getting too hot, and she could not walk more than a few steps without falling down.

A temporary caretaker gradually increased her exercise, helping her improve little by little. Peggy Sue now weighs about 52 pounds, around 20 pounds less than before. She continues to exercise and follow a strict eating plan. Emmie and Andy, her new owners in Taunton, kept working on her weight after the shelter and caretaker helped her lose the first 11 pounds.

Peggy Sue found her new home during the charity’s October adoption campaign. At first, she only had short periods of energy, but she has grown stronger. She now enjoys walks, car rides, shallow pools among rocks, and streams. She has also become friends with another dog in the household.
