Marvel had been looking to 2026 as a year of recovery, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving in the summer and Avengers: Doomsday due at the end of the year. Both films were expected to be among the studio’s most notable recent releases, and both were seen as strong box-office plays.
Instead, reports now suggest that Doomsday has run into major problems in the editing stage. The film reportedly began shooting before its script was complete, a decision that raised concerns at the time and now appears to have created real complications. People close to the production have described the project as disorganized, and the challenge of shaping nearly 60 characters into a coherent narrative is said to be a major factor.
The film brings together Sam Wilson’s new Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the Wakandans against Doctor Doom, who is played by Robert Downey Jr. The X-Men are portrayed by actors including Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn. Directed by the Russo Brothers, who also made Infinity War and Endgame, the movie also stars Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Sebastian Stan, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Letitia Wright.
