Anthropic’s Assistant Job Draws Attention to AI’s Role at Work

A reportedly high-paying assistant position at Anthropic attracted online comments because many of its duties could theoretically be handled by AI.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic reportedly advertised an assistant position in its London office with a salary of 145,000 euros, roughly $190,000. The person would support senior leaders responsible for bringing the company’s products to market. The posting has since disappeared from Anthropic’s website, although a saved copy remains available.

The duties included arranging schedules, organizing travel, managing an executive’s email inbox and other communications, and submitting requests to repay work expenses. Other office tasks were also part of the role. Anthropic wanted someone who was organized, paid close attention to details, and could start work without waiting for instructions. The person also needed strong skills in building relationships and recognizing what different teams needed, while completing tasks promptly and accurately.

Some social media users saw an irony in the posting. Anthropic develops AI agents, tools designed to carry out tasks independently. In theory, such tools could handle much of the advertised work. One user joked that someone should create a technology tool to do those tasks on its own.
