Researchers studied an old camp above Alaska’s Tanana River. People used it 13,800, 13,000, and 12,700 years ago. The finds suggest people did more than pass through.
People hunted mammoths, bison, horses, and caribou. Researchers think they broke bones to get the soft food inside. They found a large oven in the ground nearby. People also made needles from bird bones.
The team found sharp stones with a diamond shape. These were possibly weapon tips. Similar stones from that time come from what is now Russia. The finds suggest people traveled across the Bering Land Bridge. This land once joined the two sides. The sea covered it about 12,000 years ago.
