Luke Woodhouse won his first match at the European Championship in Dortmund. He beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-3. A darts match has several small games, called legs. In the fourth leg, Woodhouse needed only nine throws to win. This is a perfect leg in darts. The crowd loved it. The competition runs from 22 to 25 October.
After his nine perfect throws, Woodhouse stayed calm. He won the match with a final throw into the centre of the board. Afterwards, he said he felt very good. He had a chance to do the same thing at the World Championship, but it did not go well. He said winning the match mattered most. He did not want to throw a perfect leg and then lose.
Woodhouse next plays Gian van Veen in the second round. Van Veen won this competition last year. He beat Andrew Gilding 6-4 in his first match. He hopes to become the first player since 2018 to win the competition two years in a row.
