Walter Koenig made up his lines in Columbo

Walter Koenig made up his words for a Columbo scene after Peter Falk asked for changes. He finished the scene in one try.

Walter Koenig has died at the age of 90. He played Pavel Chekov in Star Trek. He also had a small part in the television crime show Columbo. In that show, he played a police officer named Morella.

Koenig appeared in the episode Fade In to Murder with another Star Trek actor, William Shatner. Shatner played Ward Fowler, a famous television actor. A woman from Fowler's past threatened to tell his secret. Fowler then killed her and made the crime look like a robbery.

In his scene, Koenig explained what happened at the shop. He filmed with Peter Falk at two in the morning. Falk wanted to change Koenig's words. They were too much like Columbo's own description of the crime.

There was no time to write new lines. Falk explained what he wanted, and Koenig made up the words as they filmed. He finished the scene in one try. Away from filming, Koenig also enjoyed meeting Star Trek fans and spoke warmly with them at fan events.
