Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC reported a record net profit of 763.1 billion New Taiwan dollars for July to September, an increase of about 69% from a year earlier. Net profit is the money left after costs. This was its sixth consecutive quarter of record profit. Revenue, or total sales income, rose 51% to 1.49 trillion New Taiwan dollars.
Strong global demand for artificial intelligence hardware supported the results. TSMC, the world's largest manufacturer of chips for other companies, makes chips used in Nvidia's AI processors. It said customers still wanted more chips than it could produce, with no sign that the AI trend was slowing. However, chairman and chief executive C.C. Wei said rising component prices and economic uncertainty were putting pressure on some markets. The company is therefore planning cautiously for 2027.
TSMC plans another factory in Tainan, with production expected in the first half of 2028. Construction of its second Arizona factory is complete. Large-scale production there is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, earlier than previously planned.
