Students fill a football field with food to help families

Students in New Jersey collected more than 250,000 pounds of food. The food went to 30 places that help feed families.

Hundreds of students in New Jersey collected food for families. Together, they collected more than 250,000 pounds of food. Thousands of yellow bags covered the American football field at Howell High School. The bags reached from one end to the other.

The event was the second 100-Yard Food Drive Challenge. The charity Dermer Dreams organised it. This was its biggest food collection so far. Students started by asking people in their neighbourhoods for food.

Schools, businesses, families and volunteers joined the work. The school’s football team helped volunteers carry the bags to hired trucks. The food then went to 30 food banks across New Jersey. These places give food to people who need it.

The first challenge took place in 2025 at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. Students there planned the event and found volunteers to help. Dan Dermer started Dermer Dreams in 2019. His wife, Alyse, also works with the charity. They also started a programme for students who needed to spend time helping their community.
