Samsung has added a better sleep check to its Galaxy Ring. It looks for sleep apnoea, a health problem with breaks in breathing during sleep. The US Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, approved the new feature in July 2026. It uses AI, a type of computer technology, to count these breaks each hour.
To get results, users need to sleep for at least five hours on each of two nights. Both nights must fall within ten days. The Samsung Health Monitor app then shows whether the problem is mild, happens sometimes or happens often.
Samsung says only a doctor can tell someone for sure if they have sleep apnoea. The results can help users talk to a doctor. Samsung first got FDA approval for sleep apnoea checks in February 2024. That earlier check only looked for signs of more serious forms of the problem.
The new feature also works on the Galaxy Watch 9 with Wear OS 7.0 or later. Samsung plans to bring it to the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 8 through software updates.
