Record-breaking bridge attracts tourists in China

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge combines faster transport with visitor attractions, helping tourism and businesses in the surrounding area.

China’s Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, which opened on 28 September 2025, is the world’s highest bridge. It stands 2,054 feet above the river below. Built to improve transport across the canyon, it has reduced a journey that previously took two hours to just two minutes. However, carrying traffic was not its only planned purpose: tourism was included from the beginning.

Visitors can take lifts into the bridge and enjoy views from a glass observation room. They can also explore a sightseeing walkway, cross a narrow path suspended above the canyon or try bungee jumping. An elevated running track offers another activity, while light and water-screen shows take place at night. During China’s week-long National Day holiday, the bridge also organised concerts, racing activities and food events.

The project has recorded about 3.3 million visits, and its popularity has brought more tourists to nearby places. Local businesses have benefited from the improved transport connections. According to a hotel manager in Huajiang Township, rooms are often fully booked at weekends and during public holidays, as visitors choose to stay in the area.
