Powderfinger have unveiled an Australian comeback tour scheduled to take place 17 years after their break-up. Having confirmed their reunion last week, the Brisbane-based rock band will open with four nights in their home city next September. A further 14 performances will follow in Cairns, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, with every concert staged in a stadium-sized tent. Performances will be restricted to Fridays and Saturdays, a scheduling approach similar to that adopted by Oasis on their world tour last year. No overseas dates have yet been announced.
Expressing their enthusiasm for playing together again, the band explained that previous suggestions of a return had never felt right or aligned for all members. They acknowledged the sustained support of long-standing followers, alongside newer fans who have never seen them live. Their statement also reflected on the connection between their music and listeners' cherished memories, expressing a wish to create further shared moments while touring with established and emerging Australian talent.
Across their career, Powderfinger released seven studio albums. Their 2000 release, Odyssey Number Five, was voted the greatest Australian album by listeners of ABC music station Triple J in 2011. Its single My Happiness ranked sixth in the station's 2025 vote on Australia's greatest songs. Other hits include On My Mind, These Days and Sunsets. Since the split, frontman Bernard Fanning has continued a solo career, while bassist John Collins has opened two of Brisbane's largest live music venues.
