Patrick Stewart has died aged 86. Best known for playing Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men, he also had a voice role in the 2007 film TMNT. Directed by Kevin Munroe, the film gave him the chance to play a villain.
His character, Max Winters, is an industrialist, a businessman who controls an army of ancient monsters. Unlike many enemies in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stories, Winters was created specifically for the film. He did not appear in the original comics.
The story takes place after the Turtles have defeated Shredder. However, the brothers have grown apart, and their teacher Splinter struggles to hold the family together. When strange events begin in New York City, they must rebuild their relationship to face the monsters.
Winters was once called Yaotl, a military leader who wanted to rule the world. He tried to gain the power to live forever through a portal, a special doorway that opens once every 3,000 years. Eventually, however, he came to see endless life as a curse rather than a gift. The cast also includes Chris Evans as the voice of Casey Jones, a role he played before becoming Captain America.
