Emirates is evaluating potential services from Dubai to Denver, Detroit and Philadelphia as part of a broader expansion strategy. Speaking at the Routes World conference, president Tim Clark described an extensive list of prospective destinations. The airline's latest US addition was Miami in 2021, although that service replaced nearby Fort Lauderdale. Newark, launched in 2017, remains its most recent entirely new US destination.
More fuel-efficient aircraft are expected to broaden the range of destinations Emirates can serve profitably from Dubai. Its order book comprises more than 300 Airbus A350s, Boeing 787s and Boeing 777Xs. The first 777-9s, configured with 300 to 400 seats, are expected in 2027, compared with an original delivery target of 2020. Emirates can also change some recent 777-9 orders to the smaller 777-8 or a possible larger 777-10.
Despite conflicts involving Iran and the Houthis in Yemen, Clark said the airline remained committed to expansion. Demand continues to be strong, including on Bangkok services, which remain full, while Emirates is still profitable despite elevated jet fuel prices. The dominant carrier at Dubai International Airport, it has benefited from flight suspensions by several Western airlines and connects Europe and North America with India, Southeast Asia and Africa. Its US opportunities also sit alongside a partnership with United Airlines, established in 2023 through codesharing and links between their loyalty programmes. Denver is the only United hub that Emirates does not already serve.
