Navi Pillay has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. She is 85 and comes from South Africa. She was a judge and led the UN's work on people's rights. The prize committee praised her work for peace and laws between countries.
Pillay grew up in a poor area of Durban. South Africa then kept people apart because of their race. As a lawyer, she helped people who fought this system. Later, her work took her to Rwanda and Gaza.
She heard about the prize at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg. She was surprised. She dedicated it to people who survived serious crimes and to people who work for justice.
