Sarsenbay Kotyrashov, a 76-year-old blacksmith from Kazakhstan, is preparing to walk across eight US states in 2027. His planned route goes from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast. He hopes to enter Guinness World Records by walking more than 40,000 kilometres after the age of 75.
His first long journey began in 2022, when he walked 8,000 kilometres across Kazakhstan in six months. He started in his home region of Ulytau and finished in Aktau, beside the Caspian Sea. Later journeys took him through Russia to Turkey, and through Russia and Mongolia to China. In China, he visited the Great Wall.
In 2026, he walked through five European countries, travelling from Belgrade to Paris. He covered about 3,000 kilometres in 53 days, passing through Hungary, Austria and Germany. His journeys have also brought difficulties: once, he spent three and a half days in the wild without food or water. However, he does not consider himself old and remains determined to complete his plan.
