Hungary's parliament voted to change a child-protection law from 2021. There were 139 votes for the change and 51 against. The law came from former leader Viktor Orbán. Péter Magyar became prime minister in May.
The old rules stopped children from seeing content about men loving men, women loving women, or changing gender. The new rules instead aim to protect people under 18 from material that can seriously harm their growth, learning or feelings.
Magyar said the change would follow European Union rules. The European Union welcomed the vote. A rights group also welcomed the change, but said more work was needed. Other laws still limit the rights of people who love someone of the same sex or change gender.
