The Neighbors started on ABC in 2012. Dan Fogelman created the TV comedy. It ran for two seasons and had 44 episodes. In the story, a family moves to Hidden Hills. Their neighbours are aliens, but they look like people.
George Takei plays Big Bird. His son, Larry Bird, leads the aliens. Takei appears in four episodes. His first comes at the end of season one. Mark Hamill also appears as Commander Bill. The two actors share a scene. Big Bird sends messages to Earth on bread. His machine looks like a toaster.
Fogelman asked Takei to join the show in a letter. Takei agreed. The scene with Hamill includes jokes about Star Trek and Star Wars.
