The European Union (EU) agreed on Monday to start a new mission in Lebanon. It will include soldiers and other workers. They could arrive in a few months. They will train Lebanon’s security forces and help the police with daily work.
The mission will help keep the country’s borders and seas safe. It will also help stop drones, small flying machines with no pilot inside. The EU still needs to decide the team’s size and leaders.
The United Nations plans to end its peacekeeping work there at the end of 2026. The EU says its mission will not replace that work. Its team will not work in southern Lebanon. Israel continues to fight the Hezbollah group there. Iran supports Hezbollah.
