Peggy Sue, a bulldog who once weighed 32.5 kilograms, has lost weight and found a new home. When she arrived at the RSPCA’s West Hatch Animal Centre in Somerset, England, in July, she could barely walk. She suffered from infections and became too hot. After only a few steps, she would collapse. Staff had to carry her from the van to her kennel in a crate.
A temporary carer gradually increased Peggy Sue’s exercise, and her condition improved slowly. She now weighs 23.5 kilograms and continues to follow a strict diet and enjoy exercise. The charity and her temporary carer helped her lose the first five kilograms before her new owners continued the work.
Emmie and Andy, from Taunton, adopted her during the RSPCA’s October adoption campaign. At first, she had only short bursts of energy, but she gradually became stronger. She now loves walks, car journeys, rock pools and streams. She has also become friends with another dog in the household.
